Every year, there is always a movie that goes crazy at the box office, and in the year 2023, one of those movies was “Oppenheimer.” It was a movie that blew up at the box office, and it made lots of money, but it also talks to the viewers about how J. Robert Oppenheimer invented the atomic bomb, and it was a cinematic masterpiece.
Sir Christopher Nolan’s latest movie was based on the 2005 biography “American Prometheus,” based on the story of Robert J. Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, and it is not just captivating, it haunts people in the movie theater. Nolan is a very well-known director with movies like “Interstellar” and “The Dark Knight” trilogy. Most people know that he directed those movies, but real fans of his work remember his movies like “Memento” and “Insomnia”.
“Oppenheimer” was nominated for 13 Academy Awards and won 7, including Best Picture and Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role by Cillian Murphy’s betrayal of Oppenheimer and it was the highest grossing and the longest Best Picture since the 2003 hit “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”. There was a huge social media phenomenon in the summer of 2023 where a lot of people went to see Oppenheimer and Barbie at the same time, and they unofficially called it “Barbenheimer”.
The plot of this movie follows the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer and how and why the atomic bomb was created. In the year 1938, nuclear fission was discovered, and after the Germans succeeded in splitting the atom, Oppenheimer finally realized that it could be weaponized. Fast forward to the year 1945, and some scientists had questioned the atomic bomb’s relevance, and Oppenheimer believed that it could end the then ongoing Pacific War and even save people’s lives. Skip ahead a couple of years and go to the year 1954, Strauss secretly made a private service hearing before a Personnel Security Board on the renewal of Oppenheimer’s security clearance, during which his loyalty to the United States of America is questioned. Nine years later, President Lyndon B. Johnson gave Oppenheimer an award called the Enrico Fermi Award, which is given to scientists for their lifelong achievements in energy research and technology.
The music is always an important part of any type of movie, and Oppenheimer is one of those that, as soon as the music goes, you are into the movie. In this movie in particular, Swedish composer Ludwig Göransson made sure that in this movie that he would use the violin even more in this movie. While he was reading the script, he wanted to take the audience into the emotional core and the impact that Oppenheimer made on the world. Sometimes throughout the movie, the film’s theme that they use throughout the movie is only played by one instrument, and occasionally has four violins play only when there are four people on screen, and when a whole set of people, the entire string orchestra plays as a whole group.
