At the beginning of the basketball season, the boys varsity team played against their one and only rival Dexter at Dexter High School, which of course attracted a big crowd and loud student section. However, this time around, the Bulldogs put forth a strong effort during the home game against Dexter last Friday but the outcome was not as desirable. 

“It was definitely a tough one playing against Dexter, as we lost 71-59, but it was a learning experience for us to not take teams lightly,” Jake Stephens (‘24) said. “We defended them pretty well, they just hit shots when it mattered most.” 

For the annual Winter Carnival game, CHS was up against Dexter. So to provide excitement and secure a win, the team started preparing early on. 

“As preparation, we are fixing the little things on film and tuning everything in,” Braden Watson (‘23) said.

The bleachers were filled with supporters from the two communities. Both student sections on each side were going crazy as their team scored. The Bulldogs and the Chelsea community were showing their support and proudly wore their Chelsea gear in Dexter’s stands. 

Great contributions were made by all of the players of the team, with high scores from Joey Cabana (‘24) and Stephens. With great technique and solid leadership, the team worked together and took the lead in the first quarter. 

The game was intense and unpredictable and the Bulldogs fought hard for the win, but after a long and difficult game, they didn’t get the victory they were hoping for. With only seconds left in the last quarter, the team was still down and unfortunately, the game ended with 71-59 on the scoreboard. 

Although the team ended up losing, they were still supportive of each other on top of the support of the Chelsea student section that cheered them on until the very last buzzer.
