Elijah Ratliff (‘23) wrestles his opponent against Pinckney on Thursday, January 19th

The Chelsea wrestling team won against Pinckney and Saline last Thursday, January 19, beating Pinkney by 62-15 and Saline by 45-24.

The Bulldogs won two big SEC matches and are now 17-3 in their season with wrestlers like Carter Trinkle (‘23), who won against both Pinckney and Saline. Trinkle was wrestling in the 138 lbs group and pinned both his opponents down using new moves he’d learned during practice.

“Saline had a big team full of young players that just need to keep practicing to get better,” Trinkle said.

Junior Lucas Racine had a good attitude before Thursday’s dual and in two minutes and fifty-seven seconds, Racine pinned Saline’s player going 2-0. Racine now has a 23-2 record making up for a previous 19-4 for a tech fall against Pinckney.

Seniors Elijah Ratliff, who won both matches by decision points, and Nick Garza, who competed at 190 lbs and won both matches against Saline and Pinkney, played critical roles in solidifying the win against both opponents.

Juniors Victor Radu, who went 1-1 with a win against Saline and a loss to Pinckney, and Donovan Fisk, who went 1-1 in HWT, losing against Saline, both put incredible effort into their matches and gave their opponents a run for their money.

“Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard,” Fisk said, as he remained positive despite his loss.
