Yearbook Updates

Yearbook+Updates

Lots of changes are being made to the yearbook due to Covid-19.

The first of the changes is the deadline to submit senior photos is later than it has been in previous years. This year, senior photos need to be emailed to yearbook @chelsea.k12.mi.us or submitted to the Google Form emailed to seniors by January 31st.

“Senior Photos are required to be professional (this doesn’t mean that you must hire a professional photographer, but it means they must be professional quality – no screenshots, selfies, or stickers.), have an outdoor background, full body or 3/4 body, portrait orientation (landscape pictures will not be accepted) and full file size (ie – Do not reduce the size of the file when you upload or email it),” yearbook staff sent in an email to seniors.

Another difference is that as well as having to find ways to stay socially distanced to take photos, the yearbook staff is largely relying on and encouraging students, coaches, club advisors, parents and teachers to submit photos under the Yearbook PowerSchool Learning page (under Extras tab), emailing yearbook @chelsea.k12.mi.us or direct messaging @chelseahsyearbook on Instagram.

“Photos can include simple things, like a hobby you’ve picked up recently or a photo of your lunch at home, to the big things like socially distanced get-togethers or action you are taking in our community,” Yearbook Staff said in an email. “If you want to be in the yearbook, now is your chance.”

The yearbook staff has also had to find ways of editing the yearbook from home.

“We are really lucky that our editing software is cloud-based,” Woodruff said. “This has allowed my editors to put the page designs and content together from home.”

Covid-19 has also greatly affected the layout of the yearbook. The yearbook staff can’t use the usual layout because getting photos is harder, and they can’t fill up pages that are dedicated to one thing.

“We are working chronologically through the book meaning we have pages by month where we cover clubs, sports, and student life in September, then October, then November, etc,” Woodruff said. “I really like this format  and I think it captures the essence of this year – we are all just taking it one day, one week, one month at a time, and the yearbook reflects that.”
